Fixed Braces
The gold standard for comprehensive treatment. Modern metal braces are smaller, smoother, and more comfortable than ever before.

Aligners for Children
We offer clear aligners designed specifically for growing mouths. These are removable, making them perfect for children who play wind instruments or contact sports.
Early Assessment
You do not need to wait for every baby tooth to fall out before seeing an orthodontist. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial check-up by age 7. At this stage, the first adult molars have erupted, establishing the back bite. This allows us to spot potential growth issues while the jaw is still developing.
Monitor jaw growth & symmetry.
Prevent complex issues later.
Correct thumb-sucking habits.

Your Child’s Path to a Perfect Smile
Orthodontics for children is often about timing. We only treat when necessary.

We assess and observe.
At age 7, the first adult molars appear. We take a quick look to ensure the jaw is growing correctly. Often, no treatment is needed - just peace of mind.

We monitor their growth.
If we spot a minor issue, we may place your child on a "recall" list. We see them every 6–12 months to ensure their adult teeth have enough room to erupt safely.

We treat at the right time.
Whether it's a simple expander at age 9 or braces at age 12, we intervene at the exact moment their growth spurt will help us achieve the best result in the shortest time.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial screening by age 7. While most children will not need braces until ages 11-13, an early screening allows us to identify "interceptive" issues - like crossbites or severe crowding - that are much easier to treat while the jaw is still growing.
Our philosophy is "non-extraction" whenever possible. By seeing children early, we can often use expanders or growth guidance appliances to create the necessary space for adult teeth, significantly reducing the likelihood of needing extractions later in their teenage years.
Absolutely. Whether they play rugby, GAA or Hockey, your child can continue all their normal activities. We provide a loose-fitting mouthguard as part of our treatment packages to ensure their lips and teeth are fully protected during contact sports. Or you can buy a re-mouldable one from sports shops.
Every child is unique, but comprehensive teenage treatment typically lasts between 18 and 24 months. Early "Phase 1" treatments (like expanders) are much shorter, often taking just 6 to 12months to complete their specific objective.
No, you do not need a referral to visit Ratoath Orthodontics. You can book a complimentary consultation directly with us. However, we always recommend your child continues to see their general dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings throughout their orthodontic treatment.
