No. This initial consultation appointment is free of charge.
The initial appointment consists of a clinical examination to give us an insight into your orthodontic needs. It lasts about an hour, and we will take digital photos and a 3D scan of your teeth. You will also meet your Doctor for a chat about your smile goals.
No you do not. You can book directly with Ratoath Orthodontics at any time
According to the American Association of Orthodontists, the ideal age for children to have their first assessment is 7 years old. In most cases, we do not commence treatment at this age, but it helps us plan for the future. The optimum age for treatment is usually about 10 or 12, however, we treat people ranging in age from 7 to 80!
Absolutely. 35% of our patients are adults. With options like Clear Aligners and Lingual Braces, orthodontics can be a lot more discreet than it used to be.
Treatment times are generally shorter now thanks to improved technology. The length of treatment depends on each patient's specific problem, but the average time with braces is 18–24 months.
The need for extractions has been dramatically reduced thanks to modern techniques. Removal of teeth is typically only required if severe crowding or significant bite problems are present.
Generally, your teeth will not hurt. Advances in technology have improved patient comfort dramatically. After certain visits or changing Clear aligners, teeth may be sore for a few days - a sign that positive changes are happening. If needed, standard painkillers like Paracetamol or Nurofen can be taken.
Yes, absolutely!
Music: There may be a short adjustment period, but braces will not prevent you from playing.
Sports: You can participate in all sports. We recommend wearing a mouthguard for protection. For fixed braces, we can provide a loose-fitting guard, or you can buy a re-moldable one from sports shops.
Yes, but the list is short! You should avoid sticky foods, hard toffees, raw vegetables, juices, and fizzy drinks. Cutting food into small bite-size pieces helps prevent damage to your appliances.
Yes, absolutely! Regular check-ups and cleanings with your family dentist are vital during any orthodontic treatment to maintain healthy gums and teeth.
The cost depends on the severity of the problem and the treatment time required. We will provide a specific quote at your consultation.
Your first initial consultation is complimentary. Your second appointment (Records appointment) has a fee of €200 which will be taken off your total cost of treatment if you decide to proceed. We then have flexible options, including interest-free monthly payments:
Option 1 (Monthly): An initial down payment (approx. €800) followed by monthly standing order payments (e.g., €200/month).
Option 2 (Pay in Full): Pay the total fee upfront to receive a courtesy discount
Yes. You can claim 20% tax relief on orthodontic fees via the Med 2 form. Our office will be happy to provide you with the necessary receipts and forms.
Most standard dental policies do not cover orthodontics, though some may offer a contribution. We recommend you speak directly with your insurance provider to check your policy for specifics.
Yes. We understand the cost of treating multiple children can add up. We offer a sibling discount for second and third family members starting treatment. Please mention this to your Doctor during your consultation.
Our quotes are generally all-inclusive, covering your braces, appointments, and first set of retainers. However, fees may apply if braces are broken repeatedly due to negligence (eating wrong foods) or if retainers are lost and need replacement.
